At the start of February, JCLEC opened an INP Intelligence Analysis Program and the 6th International Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Management Course for Indonesian National Police (INP) DVI Province Commanders.  The joint opening ceremony was attended by the Executive Directors of JCLEC along with Senior Superintendent Anton Castilani, INP Head of Police Medical and Health Department and Federal Agent Brad McEwan from the Australian Federal Police.

Both programs are seen as priority areas.  DVI continues in importance with the various INP DVI Teams being extremely busy in the recent months being involved in DVI procedures relating to the shooting down of the Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 in the Netherlands, the crash of Air Asia Flight QZ8501 in Indonesia and a boat sinking in East Kalimantan with 197 people listed as missing.

GENUK – A number of PR officials from Regional Police Stations and Directorate General of Customs and Excise visited Suara Merdeka office at Jalan Kaligawe, Genuk, Semarang, Wed (21/1). The visit was aimed to have a glimpse at the heart of the daily newspaper.
In a dialogue led by the Deputy Editor in Chief of Suara Merdeka, Gunawan Permadi and Editorial Secretary, Eko Hari Mujiharto, some perceptions of the PR officials about journalists were revealed. One of the participants, Ricky from Central Directorate General of Customs and Excise stated that he felt nervous, scared and even irritated when required to face the media. He was chased by journalists and they even frequently contacted him via his private number. He was unable to rest with ease.
“They chase me around the clock. While the information they asked was not to be released,” he said during the dialogue, in the meeting room, on the second floor.

Ricky suggested to arrange an agreement between law enforcement agencies and newspapers in relation to things that could and could not be done. However, Gunawan said that such agreement was not necessary since we already have press law and journalistic code of ethics that can be accessed by the law enforcement PR officials.
